Old Hickory Clay & Gleason Clay Company Announce Price Increase

HICKORY, Ky.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–J. Lee Powell, President and CEO of Old Hickory Clay Company and Gleason Clay Company LLC, has announced that both companies are implementing a general price increase for all of their ball clay and kaolin products, effective March 1, 2016. The increases will be 4% to 8% depending on the grade, and will be subject to contractual commitments already in place. Mr. Powell states that this increase is necessary to offset higher costs of wages and benefits (particularly, employee health insurance), equipment maintenace and replacement, regulatory compliance, and investment in new technologies to improve operating efficiency and productivity. The newly created GCC is an affiliate of Old Hickory Clay Company. Closing of the transaction is expected to take place soon. We welcome all of the customers of the Gleason facility to GCC! GCC will continue to offer the same line of ball clay products as before under Unimin’s ownership. The new company will be working closely with Unimin Corporation for a seamless and trouble-free transition for our customers. Rest assured that the same staff and operations team at the Gleason facility will be taking care of your ball clay requirements under the GCC banner, as they have for more than 20 years. Until the transaction closes on or about August 29, 2014, please continue to place your orders with Unimin, as usual. All orders for fulfillment after the closing date will be transferred to GCC, so there will be no need to place new orders. $150M investment in Lebanon largest ever in Tennessee for a China-based company

Exciting news in the ceramics industry.  According to the Nashville Business Journal where this news was released and written by editor, Eric Snyder.  Another ceramic tile company is investing millions of dollars into Middle Tennessee. State officials announced today that China-based Wonderful Group will invest $150 million to build a facility in Lebanon, its first investment in the United States. The facility will create 220 jobs. “This is great news not only for Lebanon and Wilson County, but for the entire state. Wonderful Group’s commitment represents the largest capital investment made by a Chinese-based project in the state’s history,” Randy Boyd, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, said in a news release. “We are honored that Tennessee will be home to Wonderful Group’s first manufacturing facility in the country, and I look forward to building a strong relationship with the company in the years to come.” The 500,000-square-foot plant will be located in Wilson County’s Cherry Farm industrial site. With construction underway, it is expected to be operational in late 2016. The region has won a number of ceramic tile facilities in recent years. In April 2014, Tecnotiles Inc., an Italian tile-finishing firm, announced a $3 million investment to launch its U.S. operations in Lebanon.
